Morning glories, what a special plant being!!

You may have heard of morning glories being “used” as a cheap, easy to access hallucinogen. But similarly to those who seek our nightshade friends (namely datura and brugmansia) for a quick high, folks are generally met with unpleasant side effects which they were not prepared for. This has unfortunately created a culture of uninformed dismissiveness among those who might be otherwise open to these divine vines.

Morning glory seeds do contain an alkaloid called LSA, which has only a two proton difference from LSD. LSA is also found in grain grown ergot, and is the likely sacrament of the Eleusinian Mysteries, an ancient Greek tradition with ties to the Persephone/Demeter myth which met every year for nearly two thousand years.

Morning glories hail from tropical regions of Mexico, but can now be found as a garden ornamental the world over.

Mesoamericans ingested the seeds in a drink for divinatory purposes, and you can sometimes find statues featuring tobacco, peyote, mushrooms, and morning glories, pointing towards the importance these flowers held.

The common names for different morning glory varieties certainly seem to hint at their psychoactive nature; heavenly blues, pearly gates, flying saucers, white magic, & rainbow flash to name a few.

This flower essence is crafted from the heavenly blues variety (my favorite), and does not contain any seeds or physical plant matter. *Essences are energetic medicine*

I find this essence most helpful for when we need to zoom out and see the bigger picture. There is an undeniable optimism & unifying presence to morning glories.
